TRAINING WEEK PLAN

The EMERGE! 2010 International Training for Cultural Creatives aims to provide a space for young people to explore new possibilities of culture towards social transformation. Instead of being held hostage by political and economic interests, there is a need for Civil Society to recognize itself as the third societal force at work in the world, and to recognize that their power is cultural power. The creativity that is streaming from the future and which allows us to constantly find deeper meaning and identity, both as individuals and as groups.

What does it mean to be young? What is the youth carrying? Given the youth’s key role in shaping evolutionary history, how can the kabataan of today create the world of tomorrow? The day’s activities will serve as the foundation for the week’s process, symbolically grounding individual selfhood before entering the world stage.

Who am I in relation to other human beings? Who am I in relation to the world? No man is an island: each act and thought and life is embedded in a greater world process. The complexity and interconnectedness of human experience will be explored through an interactive forum and collaborative art exercises.

Theme: PAGLIKHA NG KINABUKASAN (Creating the Future)

How can we serve the evolution of human consciousness in order to address the complex problems of our time? What is the world calling us to do? Weaving together all that has emerged during the week . working out of the essence, through dialogue, to envision how creative efforts could trigger profound cultural changes in society.

Now is the hour.
We face an ever-deepening global crisis – economic, social, environmental –
a crisis we have created.
To overcome it we will have to overcome ourselves –
we will have to transcend the thinking that created these problems.
It is only in each one of us that a new thinking can take hold.
It is only in each one of us that a living culture can be born.
New inspirations will draw us together.
Out of a common spirit we can balance and revitalize
the dying forms of Business and Traditional Politics.
We are Civil Society – the third force in societal governance.
We invite you to recognize and co-create this reality.
Copenhagen has shown that we have yet to redirect
the general course of decision-making.
We must know our own power and become strong in it.
It is time for the virtue of each individual to find its right place within the whole.
It is time for Civil Society world-wide to recognize its right task within society,
to emerge in its true form.
Join us.
